These terms are the agreement between you and PaintedApp, LLC, which runs Painted Court. Buying from us, or using the site, means you accept them. If you don't, please don't order.

What you are buying

A Painted Court print is a tennis club drawn from its survey in OpenStreetMap, with every court measured from the outline its mappers traced and lined to the ITF's measurements, printed on the paper or canvas you choose, or sent to you as a Digital File. You choose the club, the sheet, the surfaces and the words; the drawing and every figure are worked out from the survey, and the print is drawn from the same survey and settings you saw in the studio.

A club print is drawn from data by our code, not made by an image generator and not traced from aerial photographs.

The View is different, and says so: it's a digital painting of a photograph you send, made by OpenAI's image model, enlarged for print by Claid, and printed by the same labs. Send only a photograph you took or have the right to use, and only one the people in it would be glad to see painted. You keep the rights in your photograph; you give us permission to send it to those two services to make your painting and your print, and nothing more. The painting can differ from the photograph in its detail, and it leaves out signs and logos on purpose. We don't paint a photograph taken at the four major championship grounds.

You must be 18 or older, or the age of majority where you live, to order.

Clubs and their names

A club's name is used on the print to say which club it is. No club or tennis body has made or approved the print, and we never set a club's logo or crest on it. The studio refuses the four grounds that host the major championships. A score, a result or a name you add is your own words: we check that a score can happen under the rules, and nothing more.

The map data

The drawing is a Produced Work from OpenStreetMap, which its contributors make available under the Open Database License. Every print carries the credit the licence asks for, with the date the data was read, and you agree not to remove it from a Digital File. The data is the work of volunteers: it can be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and a print shows it as it was on that date.

Made to order

Every print is drawn and printed for one club and one set of choices. Nothing is held in stock and nothing can be resold, so please check the club, the courts, the words and the options before you pay. Your order goes to the print lab after payment, so a print can't be cancelled or returned once it's under way, except where the fault is ours or the law says otherwise. The shipping and returns page sets out what we do when something goes wrong.

If something arrives wrong

If your print arrives damaged, defective, or not what you ordered, write to us within 30 days of delivery with a photograph and we'll remake it or refund you. That is our own promise, and it sits on top of your statutory rights, which nothing here reduces.

Your print, your rights

Your purchase licenses the print for personal use: hang it, give it, photograph it. It doesn't transfer our copyright in the drawing or the software, and it doesn't license commercial use or resale. A club that wants prints for its members or its shop can write to us and ask.

The Digital File

A Digital File is the print-ready JPEG of your club, sent as a download link on the page after you pay and by email, instead of being printed. Nothing is shipped. Your purchase licenses the file for personal use: print it as often as you like for yourself, frame it, and give the prints you make as gifts. It doesn't license resale, commercial use or merchandise, or passing the file on for other people to print. If the file is faulty or isn't the club you set, write to us within 30 days and we'll fix it or refund you.

Gift codes

A gift code pays for one print or one Digital File on this site, up to the amount it was bought for. Shipping is paid separately, at checkout. It works once: if the item costs less than the code, the difference doesn't carry over and can't be used later. Codes don't expire and have no cash value, and they work only on this site.

The code is emailed to the person who bought it, to pass on. Anyone who has the code can use it, so keep it as you would a gift card; we can't replace a code someone else has already used. A code can't make a club printable that OpenStreetMap doesn't hold enough of. The names and message on a gift note are the buyer's own words, and we don't check or edit them.

Fair use of the site

Please don't scrape the site, resell access to it, or use it to produce anything unlawful, including names or lines that use someone else's trademark to suggest they made the print, or that impersonate a real person. We may decline or refund any order at our discretion.

The honest limits

Each court's figures are the sides of the smallest rectangle round its mapped outline, measured on the WGS84 ellipsoid, and its bearing is that rectangle's long axis from north. A court within 1 m of the ITF's 23.77 × 10.97 m is lined at exactly those measurements; a larger outline, traced with its run-off, gets the regulation lines centred inside it. The lines are drawn to the rules' measurements; we don't survey the paint at your club. A surface the map doesn't record is the one you set. The print is drawn north up (The Court turned to stand on end) on a flat projection. It is a picture of a club, not a survey for building or resurfacing, and it should not be relied on for anything that matters.

The site and everything on it are provided as they are, without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim arising out of an order or these terms will not exceed what you paid for the order it concerns, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

Prices and payment

Prices are shown before you pay, and Stripe's checkout page shows the full total, including any shipping, before you confirm. Stripe charges your card; we never see or store your card details. Prodigi or Printful prints and ships each print, whichever gets it to you for less, and shipping is charged at what that lab charges to send it, with nothing added. Import duties, where they apply, are the recipient's responsibility.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes will be heard there, except where consumer-protection law where you live gives you the right to bring proceedings in your own country. Before filing anything, please write to us so we can try to settle it directly.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top always says when. Orders are governed by the terms in force when you placed them.
