Painted Court

About

Measured, Then Drawn

Painted Court prints a tennis club the way its court sheet would draw it: every court from its survey, turned to the bearing it was built on, its lines at the ITF's measurements and its number in a circle.

Why measure?

A player looks at a club print and finds the court they play on. If it sits where it should, at the angle it should, they trust the rest. So every court on ours comes from the outline its mappers traced, measured on the same ellipsoid GPS uses, and the print says how many of them sit within 1 m of the ITF's 23.77 × 10.97 m. Tennis art drawn from imagination can't make that claim, and most of it only draws four stadiums anyway.

Your club, never a famous ground

We draw your club, never a famous ground you have only watched. The four grounds that host the major championships are refused in the studio, by name and by where they stand, and they appear on none of our pages. The courts you book on a Tuesday are the ones worth a wall.

What we never do

  • Invent a court. A court that was never mapped isn't on the print; the studio says how many it found and how many are only points.
  • Guess a surface. Most clubs don't record what their courts are made of, so we ask you, once for the whole club, and you can change any court on its own.
  • Print a score that can't happen. A set of 6-5 is refused with the reason, and so is a third set after the match was won.
  • Trace an aerial photograph, or set a club's crest on a print. The style called Aerial is drawn from the survey.

What we can't promise

The drawing is only as complete as OpenStreetMap's survey of the club, and that is the work of volunteers. Some clubs are mapped court by court; some only as a single point, which gives us nothing to measure; some with the run-off traced as part of the court, and then we centre the regulation lines inside it rather than stretch them. The studio tells you which, before you order.

Who makes it

Painted Court is made by PaintedApp, LLC in Portland, Oregon, one of the studios at Painted. Prints are made by Prodigi or Printful; payments go through Stripe. Write to support@painted.app, and a person answers.
