Painted Court

Questions

Asked Before Ordering

The short answer first, then why. Anything else: write to support@painted.app and a person answers.

Which clubs can I print?

Any club or park whose courts OpenStreetMap holds as outlines.

Find your club in the studio and it counts what the map holds before any price: courts with an outline, courts mapped only as points, and how many record their surface. The Club prints from 2 courts; The Court and The Match from 1. Below that, the studio says what's missing and how a club gets mapped.

How are the courts measured?

Each from its own outline, on the ellipsoid GPS uses.

We take the smallest rectangle round each court's outline, measure its sides with Vincenty's formulae on the WGS84 ellipsoid, and read its long axis as a bearing from north. A court within 1 m of the ITF's 23.77 × 10.97 m gets its lines exactly there. Every print states how many of its courts did, and the studio lists each court's figures.

Why does the studio ask what my courts are made of?

Because most clubs don't record it, and we won't guess.

About one court in seven on the map carries a surface. The studio asks once for every court the map leaves blank, and you can change any court on its own: hard blue, hard green, clay, green clay, grass or indoor.

My club's courts aren't numbered like that.

Type the numbers on the gates.

The studio uses each court's own number where the map has one, and reading order where it doesn't. The courts table lets you renumber any of them, and the print sets your numbers.

What's The Court?

One court, standing on end, its lines dimensioned.

The court you choose is drawn tall with its baseline, service line and alleys measured off, its surface and its bearing beside it, and the match beneath it if you set one.

What's The Match?

The score, set the way a club board hangs it.

One row a side, one column a set, the tiebreak's points small beside the loser's games, and the club small above with your court marked. Singles or doubles, with the event, the round and the time on court if you'd like them.

Which scores does it accept?

Any score that can happen under the ITF Rules of Tennis.

Best of three or five, tiebreaks as 7-6 (5), a match tiebreak in place of the deciding set as [10-8], an advantage final set, a pro set to 8, and a retirement ending in ret. A set of 6-5, or a third set after the match was already won, is refused with the reason.

Can I print a famous ground?

No. We draw your club, never a famous ground you have only watched.

The four grounds that host the major championships are refused in the studio, by name and by where they stand. The public courts in the park next door are exactly the kind of club this studio is for.

What sizes and materials?

Fine art paper, gallery canvas, a float-framed canvas, or the file.

The studio shows each with its sizes and prices once you pick the sheet. Shipping is what the lab charges, and nothing more; the shipping page has the detail.

How long does it take?

One to five days to print, then the carrier's time.

Prodigi or Printful makes it, whichever gets it to you for less, and the tracking link is emailed when it ships. A Digital File arrives as a download link as soon as the payment clears.

Can I give one?

Yes, as a gift code.

Choose an amount on Give a Print; the code comes to you by email, with a note to pass on. They find their club and enter the code when they order.

Does the club approve these?

No, and the print doesn't say it does.

The club's name says which club it is. No club makes or endorses the print, and we never set a club's crest on one. A club that wants prints for its members can ask us directly.

Is anything on the print made up?

Nothing we drew.

Every court comes from the map and every figure from the arithmetic, and the margin of the print says so, with the date the data was read. The surface is the map's or yours, and the words and the score are yours.
